My experience as an advocate for my community has always been incredibly meaningful. Participating in the Fall Advocacy Days is something I look forward to every year because it consistently brings strong engagement and creates real opportunities for change. One of the most impactful parts of the event is being able to connect directly with representatives and staff members within our California government. These conversations allow us to bring attention to the needs, concerns, and challenges of the bleeding disorders community, ensuring that our voices are heard in the legislative process.
The legislative staff I have met with over the years have always shown deep understanding, empathy, and respect for the community. They listen carefully and genuinely want to help, whether the issue involves budget decisions, advancing bills through the Legislature, or expanding public awareness about the bleeding disorders community. Being able to speak on behalf of the bleeding disorders community is a responsibility and an honor that I do not take lightly. Every meeting reminds me of the importance of advocacy and the impact that individual voices can have when they come together.
It’s also an experience I wish others would also consider doing as well. I plan to continue advocating in the future, and I strongly encourage others to get involved in whatever way they can. Whether through Fall Advocacy Days, Legislative Day in the spring, or local community efforts. Advocacy offers so much: professional experience, personal growth, meaningful connections, and the chance to make a real difference. Our most powerful tool is our collective voice, and the more people who choose to speak up, the stronger and more effective our community becomes.
