The PAN Foundation has launched a national educational campaign to raise awareness about Alternative Funding Programs (AFPs) and their potential impact on patients. AFPs are programs set up by employers and health plans to redirect high-cost patients, such as those with chronic illnesses, to third-party funding sources instead of providing coverage through their health insurance.
The campaign sheds light on how AFPs can jeopardize patient care by disrupting access to necessary medications and treatments, leaving individuals to navigate complex systems to maintain their health. Through resources, stories, and actionable insights, the PAN Foundation aims to empower patients, advocates, and healthcare professionals to understand these programs and advocate for policies that prioritize patient needs over cost-shifting practices.
The campaign includes:
- An AFP educational resource center in English and Spanish, featuring an interactive tool to determine if you’re being impacted by an AFP
- Animated explainer videos in English and Spanish
- An online storytelling form for patients to share how AFPs have impacted them
- An easy-to-use online form for patients, healthcare professionals, and others to ask their lawmakers to curb the use of AFPs
